Whatcom Crop Walk 2008

What: CROP walks build community and raise funds to fight hunger at home and abroad. CROP walks take place all over the nation with over $400,000 raised in the Pacific Northwest region last year. Our goal for the Whatcom County walk is $20,000. Twenty-five percent of our proceeds will go to the Bellingham Food Bank, the Ferndale Food Bank and Maple Alley Inn.

When: Sunday, September 28 from 2:00-4:00. Registration materials are available now from First Christian Church of Bellingham, 495 E. Bakerview Rd. (360)734-6820.

Where: Fairhaven Village Green. There are two routes; a short route of approximately 1 mile and a longer route of approximately 2.5 miles.

Who: Walkers and supporters come from all walks of life. Businesses, civic groups and church groups are all participating in building community and raising funds around this issue. The organizing team for the Whatcom County Walk includes: Faith Lutheran Church, First Christian Church, First Presbyterian Church, First Congregational Church of Bellingham, Garden Street United Methodist Church, Hope in Christ Church, St. James Presbyterian Church, Blaine United Church of Christ, WWU Vietnamese Student Association

Why: We walk because they walk. Millions of people walk miles every day just to find food, water, firewood or temporary shelter. CROP walk is a way of being in solidarity and community with hungry people throughout the world.
